Grade 8 Social Studies
2017 - 2018
Hello Students and Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Grade 8 Social Studies! The theme for the Grade 8 curriculum is “history as a story of the past in the present”. The curriculum examines various themes related to the history of Newfoundland and Labrador – history as a lens to the past, history as a story of people, history as a story of events, and history as a story of change. The course introduces students to the history of the province from our earliest inhabitants to Newfoundland and Labrador becoming a part of Canada. You, the student, will discover things about your personal history and the history of the province. This will be achieved through the text along with various activities and various assignments that will range from cooking a traditional recipe, drawing a picture of a historic event, or doing a web-quest.
